One of the steps to becoming lucky is broadening our right-brain awareness and it starts with how we pay attention.
How we pay attention creates our world.
“Attention changes what kind of a thing comes into being for us: in that way it changes the world.”
“The nature of the attention one brings to bear on anything alters what one finds…”
Both of those quotes come from the book The Master and His Emissary: The Divided Brain and the Making of the Western World by Ian McGilchrist.
In order to be lucky, we have to widen our attention. Most of us are pretty focused in life, thinking only of the task in front of us.
But lucky people have a broader awareness and wider attention. They notice more things, so they’re able to take advantage of opportunities and tap into their intuition by letting their subconscious pick up on patterns.
When we change our attention we also change what we’re able to perceive, leading to new possibilities.
Try This Experiment
Choose a symbol that has some meaning to you and for the next week, take notice of how often this symbol comes into your awareness.
By training our subconscious, we’re building a habit of awareness. All these good things exist, we just need to pay attention to see them.
I’ve been noticing four leaf clovers. I’ve seen them on hats and t-shirts. In fact, we had an appliance delivered to our house the other day and the man was wearing a green t-shirt with a four leaf clover and Lucky written across it. We had a great conversation about luck!
You can choose any symbol you like – hearts, a fox, a rabbit, stars, butterfly…
The point of the exercise is this: By letting our subconscious mind take notice, we’re teaching our attention that good things are out there. We just need to take note!
I’d love to hear from you!
Will you give this experiment a try? Or maybe you’ve already done this in the past. If so, I’d love to know your experience. Leave me a comment below!
