I'm Doubling Down
My goal: a healthy, long life
This past week has been rough. My mom has health issues that landed her in the hospital and then a rehab facility for at least a few weeks.
And that has been eye opening for me.
In addition to trying to make sure she gets the best care, given the circumstances, it has me thinking about my own life and health.
I’ve been focused on a healthy lifestyle for a few years, but dang…I do NOT want to land in assisted living or nursing care later in my life.
I am doubling down!
I will keep doing these things and do them with increased intensity:
Lift weights and work to increase the amount I lift.
Do HIIT training.
Greatly limit my sugar intake. I very rarely eat processed sugars.
Focus on lots and lots of vegetables, especially green leafy veg.
Get enough protein. This one is a little challenging for me and requires vigilance.
Be social. There’s so much research on the importance of our social life. (I’m planning a new project built around this. More coming soon, because I think you may want to follow along.)
Sometimes a catalyst for change comes into our lives. For me, right now it’s watching my mom’s health.
I know I can’t control for everything, but I do want to take control in areas where that’s possible.
If you need a catalyst for your own life, let this story work for you! But I bet you have your own relatives with health challenges that can propel you to take better care of yourself.
Let’s be the generation that bankrupts care facilities because we just don’t need them anymore!

So sorry about your mother. Often, a catastrophic event spawns better health habits. I'm glad yours had started already :).
